The Mediation Process

How To Get Started

Step One: Let’s Chat – Free, no obligation and confidential.

Call or email me with your questions. I will also ask you some general questions to see if mediation would be suitable for your situation.

Step Two: Pre-Mediation – separate in-person meeting.

During this face-to-face informational session, you get to tell your side of the story in detail, ask questions about how best to proceed, and explore your options.

Step Three: Mediation – joint session.

If all parties decide to commit to this process, then we arrange a suitable time for everyone to meet. Typically two hours is appropriate for this step. Mediation occurs in a neutral rented space that is designed to create a comfortable environment. There are times when only one mediation session is needed to reach an agreeable conclusion, and other times ongoing sessions are required.

Step Four: Creation of a Memorandum of Understanding – M.O.U.

If all parties come to an agreement, the mediator will create a document that outlines the agreed upon details and plans. This M.O.U. can then be taken to a lawyer if necessary, to be ratified.
